Fireworks!

On Thursday night I went up to Bountiful with a bunch of friends to watch the fireworks at the Eaglewood Golf Course. We had a great time playing on the 8th hole while waiting for the fireworks to start. We had some blankets out, the weather was just beautiful, and the groomed, spongy lawn of the course fairways was HEAVEN on the feet!

The only downside to the evening was that I didn't bring my tripod, which made taking pictures of the fireworks (with exposures of 3-5 seconds) very tricky. I found a position in which I laid down on the ground next to my camera bag whereby I could prop the camera up on the bag and steady it with my hands. It was slightly awkward but proved to be the best possible solution for the circumstances.

The group.

Not unlike a boquet.

That darned smoke was moving, making it appear smudgy.

That firework reminds me of a porcupine... or a scorpionfish.

Oh! Sadly, when I went for my camera today, I realized the battery was dead. I had left it on while connected to the computer. : ( Because of these unfortunate circumstance, I am left with a dearth of family and firework pictures from tonight (the fourth), which is a shame considering we had many moments of horror, fleeing from wayward fireworks, that would have made excellent pictures.

Live and learn.

  2. Man, I miss Bountiful. It was a good place to grow up. Although, techinically that golf course is in North Salt Lake, but whatev. They're pretty much the same place.

Evanston gets CRAZY on the 4th of July! Just about everyone and their dog sets off fireworks. I had to work on the 4th but my neighbors didn't necessarily care and were lighting fireworks 'til the wee hours of the morning. I wanted to kill people. Evanston is just one sulfurous, stinky haze when all is said and done.

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest has a no tolerance policy regarding fireworks on federal land. Lots of people got busted and had their fireworks confiscated while they were slapped with a nasty fine! Ha ha!
